Nickent
Hybrid Wins The 2007 US Open
2007 has been an important year for Nickent Golf, from their
first-ever tour win with a driver, to the signing of their
first-ever professional staff, everything this fledgling
company is doing is building momentum and pushing them to
the top of the golf club industry. More and more of the
best players in the world have been choosing to play Nickent.
Now, the fast-growing California company can add a Major
Championship victory to their resume.
Nickent hybrids played a major factor at Oakmont, helping
the eventual champion stay away from the brutal rough off
the tee. He was the only player to shoot under par in two
rounds at the 2007 US Open, a feat largely the result of
his accuracy off the tee. The winner used a 17-degree 3DX
DC Ironwood with a 42 1/2" Aldila Proto-pype Lo-Brid
85-X shaft. The club helped the player nicknamed "El
Pato" to his first major victory and also the first
US Open victory for a player from Argentina.
"I watched all the majors on TV when I was a kid,"
the winner said. "I never thought I would be here at
this moment." The champion collected $1.26 million
for his accomplishment. He also earned a five-year exemption
on the PGA Tour, an exemption into the Open for 10 years
and a five-year exemption into the Masters, British Open,
P.G.A. Championship and the Players Championship.
The
new 4DX Ironwood from Nickent also made a big impact on
the leaderboard, as it helped the # 1 player in driving
distance on the PGA Tour stay in the fairway to finish in
the Top 5, his best finish in a major since graduating to
the PGA Tour from the Nationwide Tour two years ago. Nickent
was the only company to have two players using their hybrids
finish in the Top 5 of the US Open.
"It's a dream come true for Nickent," said Nickent
CEO Michael Lee. "We started signing staff players
on the tours this year, which has been made well known by
the play of our star player Jeff Quinney. But everyone in
golf knows the biggest impact the tour can have on a company
is winning a major, especially the Masters or the US Open.
When people find out the US Open champion used a Nickent
hybrid without being paid, they will want to see what these
clubs can do for their game!"
The US Open win was Nickent's 17th win on the PGA Tours
over the last 3 seasons, 4 on the PGA Tour and 13 on the
Nationwide Tour, the tour Nickent considers home. Thirteen
Nickent hybrids (7 4DX, 6 3DC DC) were in play at the US
Open. The majority of the clubs in play were a direct result
of Nickent's efforts on the Nationwide Tour. Six players
who use Nickent hybrids in 2007 are currently in the Top
40 of the Fed Ex Cup standings (#8, #22, #26, #28, #31,
and #39).
